Regional exhibition in Stryisky Park
Between June 5 and October 15 1894, at the hundredth anniversary of the Kosciuszko uprising, a General Regional Exhibition was held in Stryisky Park - unsurpassed in scale and to our time. It became for Galicia an event of the same importance as the World Exhibitions in Paris and Chicago at the end of the nineteenth century. The Lviv exhibition in 1894 enjoyed tremendous popularity: it was visited by 1 150 thousand people (ten times the number of Lviv's then-inhabitants). Before the entrance to the exhibition (from the side of U. Samchuk Street, now Ivan Franko Street) an electric tram was launched - one of the first in Europe. The attention of the visitors was also attracted by the line of the funicular and, in particular, the electric colored fountain - an innovative work of engineering and artistic thought (allegorical sculptures were performed by Leonard Marconi).
